second language program

Both of our locations offer optional tutelage in a second language of your choice, with classes that span all levels of fluency. We offer Mandarin, Cantonese, and Tagalog. Children learn basic vocabulary, songs, poems, fingerplays, rhythms, dances, and folktales in a weekly class. Our specialized language teachers are native speakers who sing with the children, share objects, photographs, and storybooks to make these languages a tangible, interactive subject, as children learn by listening, seeing, imitating, and practicing. At certain points throughout the school year children also have a chance to perform some of the traditional songs and dances for their parents, and even wear elaborate traditional costumes!

In addition to the languages themselves, children at LSP learn cultural appreciation and sensitivity. The rich cultural heritage of our families and the city of San Francisco is very important to both our schools and is something we strive to uphold in our community.
